MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Sunday said it had finished its investigation into complaints lodged against Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Mocha Uson and other netizens for allegedly spreading of fake information on the internet related to the government’s response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)
“For evaluation lahat ng reports ng NBI (All NBI reports are for evaluation),” Victor Lorenzo, NBI director for Anti-Cybercrime, said in a text message when asked if the NBI had finished its report on the complaints filed against Uson and other netizens.
Lorenzo added that the NBI Legal Division will now decide whether to will file the case before the Department of Justice or close it.
To recall, Uson was summoned by the NBI to answer a complaint about her Facebook post in April that showed a photo of personal protective equipment that the government reportedly had purchased.
But according to netizens, the photo from the OWWA official was sourced from a private foundation.
Uson said her post was an “honest mistake” as she also issued an apology for posting the wrong photo.
