4.1-magnitude quake rocks Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines — A 4.1-magnitude earthquake rocked Mindoro island on Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

In its earthquake bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquake struck 18 kilometers (km) southeast of Santa Cruz, in Occidental Mindoro province, at 9:46 a.m.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injury from the tectonic quake that occurred at a depth of 31 kilometers.

It was felt at Intensity III in Santa Cruz and Abra de Ilog in Occidental Mindoro, and at  Intensity II in the tourist town of Puerto Galera and in San Teodoro in Oriental Mindoro.

Instrumental Intensity II was recorded in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro and San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
