CEBU CITY—Four members of a town mayor’s family in southern Cebu province tested positive for SARS Cov2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
On a Facebook post, Mayor Efren Gica, of Dumanjug town, Cebu province, said his father, Edgar; mother, Marna; brother, Erick; and partner, Kristine have all been infected and are now on quarantine in Cebu City.
“As a public official, it is my duty to disclose” the identities of members of his family who had been infected with coronavirus, the mayor said on his post.
He said the four family members showed no symptoms and are awaiting further tests.
In a radio station interview, Gica said he was in a quandary on how and where his immediate relatives got the virus.
He said although the four members of his family had no symptoms, “I can’t guarantee that they’re okay.”
“Just learning that they are positive for the virus makes me feel weak,” he said. “My parents, for one, have heart problems,” the mayor added.
“All we can do now is to continue praying,” he said.
