DUMAGUETE CITY –– A government health worker is the latest victim of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Negros Oriental.
In a press briefing, Dr. Liland Estacion, assistant provincial health officer, said the medical frontliner contracted the coronavirus after having contact with a patient who previously tested positive of the virus.
Estacion, however, did not give additional details on the new case for privacy reasons. But she assured the public that the patient has been “contained” and is in isolation.
Health authorities have also completed tracing all those who have come in contact with the health worker, she said. They are all now under home quarantine.
As of June 18, there are two active COVID-19 cases in Negros Oriental. The other active case is a fisherman from northern Bindoy town, who arrived in the province via fishing vessel Philip D.R on May 17.
Seventeen other cases in the province have recovered from the disease, including 12 other Philip D.R. fisherman, an overseas Filipino worker, and four locally stranded individuals.
