MANILA, Philippines — Two soldiers were killed while two others were wounded after they were attacked by unidentified gunmen in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, the military said Thursday.
The military personnel led by Maj. Ephtaem Domingo were on their way to Naibuan Patrol Base at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when they were ambushed by attackers in a white van in Sitio Naitan, Brgy. Batasan, Armed Forces spokesperson Col. Dennis Caña said in a statement.
The soldiers on board an SUV were supposed to inspect and distribute the subsistence allowance of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit and CAFGU Active Auxiliary personnel.
The attackers were able to take the cash allowances before running away. Caña did not say how much was stolen.
One Army sergeant and an Army corporal were killed in the incident. Domingo and CAA Willy Gregorio were wounded and brought to a district hospital in San Jose.
An investigation of the military and police is currently underway. Intel operatives are tracking the attackers, Caña said.
