MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday fielded 100 police officers to augment enforcers of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Cebu City.
“PNP Chief General Archie Gamboa directed the Police Regional Offices in Western Visayas and Eastern Visayas to send their respective regional augmentation contingents comprising 50 personnel each for deployment to Cebu City upon the recommendation of PNP Deputy Chief for Operations and concurrent Joint Task Force Covid-19 Commander, PLTGEN Guillermo Eleazar,” PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said in a statement.
Gamboa also directed Police Major Gen. Israel Dickson, PNP director for Integrated Police Operations in Visayas to coordinate and monitor the police officers.
Banac, meanwhile, said the health services of police regional offices of Western Visayas and Eastern Visayas made sure that all personnel underwent health protocols before leaving for Cebu City.
To recall, Cebu City was again placed under ECQ starting June 16 until June 30 after the government recorded an alarming rate of coronavirus disease infections in the area.
To date, Cebu City posted 3,814 COVID-19 cases with 1,924 recoveries.
