MPD probes fatal shooting of barangay chairman in Quiapo
MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) on Thursday said it is now investigating the fatal shooting last Wednesday of a barangay (village) chairman in Quiapo, Manila.
“On going ang investigation ng homicide (Homicide is investigating the incident),” MPD chief Brig. Gen. Rolly Miranda said in a text message with INQUIRER.net.
A report from MPD Homicide Section said 33-year-old Abubacar Sharief, who is the chairman of Barangay 384, Zone 39, and his companion, Malik Abdulah, 38, were sitting near a temporary outpost along Globo De Oro Street on Wednesday at 11 p.m. when unidentified armed men arrived and forced Abdulah and Sharief to lie on the ground.
As the victims were on the ground, the gunmen then shot Sharief multiple times. Abdulah sustained injuries after a stray bullet hit his right leg.
Police said the suspects then fled to an unknown direction after the shooting.
Relatives and concerned citizens rushed the victims to a nearby hospital where the Sharief died. Abdulah, meanwhile, is still confined at the hospital.
