MANILA, Philippines — Mandaluyong City has also shortened curfew hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., with the local government saying that residents of the city might not be able to arrive home on time due to limited public transportation.

The new curfew was set through City Ordinance No. 783, which was signed by Mandaluyong Mayor Carmencita “Menchie” Abalos on Wednesday.

Previously, curfew hours in the city were from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The adjustment, according to the ordinance, was made as “more people might experience hard times to go back to their homes at exactly 8 p.m.” as public transportation was still limited during the period of general community quarantine imposed over Metro Manila.

“There is a need to relax the curfew hours since public cooperation with virus-control measures — including no social gatherings and people keeping a safe distance are already practiced and in place aside from the normal health standards and protocols imposed by the City and National Governments,” the ordinance read.

Quezon City and the Manila had also shortened their curfew hours.

As of Tuesday, Mandaluyong had 805 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 516 recoveries and 60 deaths.
