Boxer Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, acknowledged as one of the greatest world junior lightweight boxing champions by the World Boxing Council, turned pro at the age of 16. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993 and elevated to the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1988, the second Asian next to Filipino boxer Pancho Villa, to be given that honor.
