Davao del Sur cop dies in gun accident
DIGOS CITY –– A police officer died when his service pistol went off while he was dismantling it on Tuesday afternoon, June 16.
Major Peter Glenn Ipong, Bansalan police chief identified the victim as Patrolman Kim Lester Remonde Cosido, 27, of Purok Barangay Tubod in Bansalan, Davao del Sur.
Cosido was assigned at the Digos City police station and detailed as a security escort of Mayor Josef Cagas.
Ipong said Cosido was intending to clean the handgun, a Taurus TS9, so he dismantled it outside his residence.
However, the gun accidentally fired, hitting Cosido in the chest, a police investigation report said.
Cosido was rushed to the Viacrusis Medical Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Article continues after this advertisementIpong said police investigators recovered the dismantled handgun with one fired cartridge stuck inside the upper receiver, a magazine inserted with 15 pieces of 9mm live ammo, and the firearm case with cleaning tools.
A paraffin examination was also done to determine if it was Cosido, who accidentally fired the gun.
