ILIGAN CITY –– A repatriated overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was recorded on Tuesday, June 16, as the second COVID-19 case in Oroquieta City in Misamis Occidental.
The city recorded on June 11 its first case, an individual who went home after being stranded during the lockdown in Cebu. The patient is in a quarantine facility in the city and showing no symptoms.
Oroquieta City Mayor Lemuel Acosta said they received the result on Tuesday afternoon that the female OFW was infected with SARS-CoV2.
The patient arrived in Manila from Dubai on June 3 and was swabbed for the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test that turned out negative. She stayed in Manila until June 9.
On June 10, she flew to Mindanao via the Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental and stayed in Cagayan de Oro City with other returning residents until June 11.
Acosta said the woman was brought to Misamis Occidental through the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration on June 12, where she was immediately quarantined in a government-run isolation facility.
It was only on June 14 that the patient manifested symptoms akin to COVID-19, hence was transferred to a referral hospital in Ozamiz City.
Acosta said although the OFW was isolated upon return to the city, local health workers are still tracing her close contacts.
Her travel details are also being established so her fellow passengers, the flight, and the bus crew could be alerted, Acosta added.
