Malabon imposes 5-day lockdown of entire Sitio 6 due to high COVID-19 cases

MANILA, Philippines — The local government of Malabon has placed the entire Sitio 6 in Barangay Catmon under “special concern lockdown” for five days as cases of the coronavirus disease continue to rise in the area.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the city government placed Sitio 6 under lockdown starting at 12 midnight on June 17, Wednesday until  June 21, Sunday at 12 midnight.

“Kaugnay ito sa request for lockdown ni (Barangay) Kap. Brian Manapat upang mas maagapan ang mabilis na pagkalat ng COVID-19 sa kanilang komunidad. Magbibigay ng relief packs sa mga residente at magkakaroon din ng major disinfection sa Sitio 6,” Malabon Mayor Lenlen Oreta wrote on Facebook.

(This is a request for lockdown of Barangay Captain Brian Manapat to address the spread of COVID-19 in the community. We will be giving relief packs to residents and we will also conduct a major disinfection in Sitio 6.)

Under the special concern lockdown, all residents, including authorized persons outside residence and frontliners, are banned from  going outside of their homes. However, residents are only allowed to go outside in case of emergencies.

Oreta said the Malabon police will help barangay officials ensure that residents are staying at their homes for the duration of the coronavirus lockdown.

As of Tuesday, Barangay Catmon recorded 19 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with seven recoveries and five deaths.

Malabon, meanwhile, posted a total number of 315 cases of coronavirus disease. This includes 118 recoveries and 41 fatalities.
