DAVAO CITY—The region of Davao is having a two-day lull in COVID-19 cases.
The Department of Health (DOH) regional office, in a report on Tuesday (June 16), said no new COVID-19 case was reported in the region since Monday.
The break from new cases came after a week of surge, especially in Davao City, with at least 50 patients testing positive for SARS Cov2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
Based on data released by DOH, the spike in fresh cases from June 8 to 14 was a 316-percent increase from numbers recorded in the week of June 1 to 7.
Local health officials have yet to explain the sharp increase in number of cases last week in Davao City, President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown.
At least 12 patients had been released from quarantine since Monday after recovering from COVID-19.
The DOH said that the total number of cases in the region is now 436 with 362 of it reported in Davao City.
The death toll is 31 while the number of recovered patients is now 283.
