CABANATUAN CITY –– A 48-year-old farmer was killed after he was struck by lightning while he was tending a farm in Talugtug, Nueva Ecija on Monday afternoon, police said.

Danilo Ramos, a resident of Barangay Nangabulan, was sowing rice seeds, when he suddenly fell to the ground unconscious about 1 p.m., said Master Sergeant Ryan Reglos, Talugtug police investigator.

Ramos was taken to the municipal rural health unit clinic but was declared dead upon arrival.

In Palayan City, a tornado swept through a village shortly before a downpour at 5:40 p.m. that day. No one was reported injured in the incident.
