Male household helper dead in apartment fire

CEBU CITY — An 18-year-old male household help died after he was trapped in a fire that destroyed an apartment at the village of Kamputhaw here on Monday (June 15).

Cebu fire investigators said Jerson Ellera, who worked as household helper of an elderly couple staying in the apartment, was trapped inside when the fire broke out.

The city fire department received the alarm past 2 a.m. It took firefighters about an hour to put it under control.

At least three people were injured in the fire, which investigators said could have been caused by faulty electrical wiring.

Damage was estimated at more than P2 million.
