Tension rises between militants, cops ahead of Corona impeachment trial

MANILA, Philippines – Tension rose between militants and authorities who secured the Senate during the opening of the impeachment trial against Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona on Monday.

Operatives of the Civil Disturbance Management teams fanned out in the area kept at bay members of militant groups Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, Gabriela, Bayan Muna, Anak Pawis and Migrante who occupied almost two lanes going into the Senate.

Armed with streamers and placards, the groups trooped to the Senate to urge for the swift impeachment of the chief justice.
