MANILA, Philippines — The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases is evaluating a proposed design for motorcycles to allow a passenger behind the rider as it may ensure adherence to minimum health protocols in modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) areas.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año disclosed this Saturday, explaining that the proposed design entails a divider being placed between the motorcycle driver and the passenger to support physical distancing.

“Maganda ‘yung proposal… ‘yung motorsiklo may divider at hard plastic ‘yung divider niya tapos may handle din kung san hahawak ‘yung nakasakay. Parang dalawang motor ‘yun,” Año, who also serves as vice chairman of the IATF said in an interview over DZBB.

(It is a good proposal, the motorcycle has a divider that is made of hard plastic then there is also a handle, which the passenger can clasp. It would look as if there are two motorcycles.)

(That is a proposal that we can consider in MGCQ areas and we can apply.)
