QC court employees attend Mass, pray for unity in judiciary

MANILA, Philippines—Quezon City court employees attended a Mass Monday noon and prayed for the continued independence of the country’s judiciary a few hours before the impeachment trial of Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona was to start at the Senate.

Judges, prosecutors and court employees who attended the Mass held at the Quezon City Hall of Justice wore varying shades of purple and black, supposedly the colors symbolizing unity in the judiciary and showing support for the embattled Corona.

But Judge Ma. Luisa Q. Padilla, executive judge of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court, said the event was not held in favor of anyone and that Mass is held daily at the QC-HOJ.

“We also pray for everyone involved in the impeachment,” she added.
