LUCENA CITY –– The 122nd Philippine Independence Day celebration in Real, Quezon was given extra significance by the recovery of three local coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients, the town mayor announced Friday.
Real Mayor Diana Abigail Diestro-Aquino disclosed that three of their townmates, who were infected with the virus, have recovered.
“Good news this Independence Day. God is really good,” Diestro-Aquino said on her Facebook. She did not provide other details about the cured patients.
Real has six recorded COVID-19 cases and two recoveries.
At least five of the patients live in Barangay Ungos, prompting the mayor to place the village under lockdown until June 10.
With the recovery of the three other patients, only one COVID-19 patient remains in Real.
Diestro-Aquino said the remaining COVID-19 patient, an 84-year-old woman, has been tested twice using the reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction test that both came back negative.
“But to be sure, she will submit herself to another test before she is classified as recovered,” the mayor said.
