MANILA, Philippines – The impeachment trial against Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona could take from one to six months, prosecution panel spokesperson Aurora Representative Sonny Angara told Radyo Inquirer 990AM in an interview Monday.
He said that the prosecution team was well ready for the trial, having prepared even through the holidays.
To be expected during the opening session were introduction of lawyers from both sides and discussion of motions for a preliminary conference on arguments, explained Angara. Each side would get 10 minutes for opening statements, he added.
Angara said that they were hopeful that no temporary restraining order will impede the impeachment trial from progressing. He stressed that the Senate had the “sole power to try and decide cases of impeachment.”
He also maintained that they were confident that their eight articles of impeachment against the chief justice were strong.
