Ilocos Sur’s third COVID-19 case is pregnant OFW who arrived from Metro Manila

DAGUPAN CITY—A 30-year-old pregnant overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Ilocos Sur tested positive for coronavirus, making her the province’s third COVID-19 case.

Ilocos Sur Gov. Ryan Luis Singson said the OFW arrived in Manila from Taiwan on April 15 and was quarantined for 14 days in a hotel in Pasay City while waiting for her coronavirus test results. She tested negative on May 9.

She went home to the village of Pantay Daya in Vigan City on May 25 with the help of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the provincial government. The woman was asked to go on another quarantine for seven days.

But on June 7, she consulted with the city health office after experiencing fever, sore throat and body malaise, which are symptoms of COVID-19.

She was then admitted to Ilocos Sur District Hospital-Magsingal on June 8 and later tested positive for the coronavirus.

Singson said contact tracing is now ongoing in Vigan City and the towns of Sinait, Narvacan, Santiago, Sta. Cruz and Tagudin, which the woman reportedly visited after her first quarantine.
