Ex-MPD drug buster shot dead in Parañaque

MANILA, Philippines – An anti-illegal drug operative was shot to death by unknown gunmen in Parañaque City on Tuesday evening.

Police Cpl. Michael Banaag was shot multiple times by two motorcycle-riding gunmen while he was traveling on his motorcycle along Ibay Street, East Service Road, Barangay San Martin de Porres, Parañaque City causing him to fall from his vehicle. The two assailants alighted from their motorcycles and peppered the victim with bullets.

The duo then fled heading north.

Before his reassignment to the National Capital Region Police Office-Regional Mobile Force Battalion 3rd Company, the victim was a long-time anti-illegal drug operative at the Manila Police District. During his stint as drug buster he received numerous death threats due to his line of work, police said.

The victim’s body was brought to the People’s Funeral located in Las Piñas for autopsy and safekeeping.

Police said the gunmen are still at large.
