LEGAZPI CITY—The entire region of Bicol was placed on red alert for heavy rains and flooding as it braces for a low pressure area (LPA) in the next 48 hours.
The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) directed all local disaster councils across the region to be on the highest level of preparedness for the weather disturbance.
Claudio Yucot, director of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Bicol and chair of the regional disaster council, said raising the red alert warning was part of preparations for the LPA expected to bring heavy rains and floods to Bicol on Wednesday (June 10) until Friday (June 12).
Yucot also ordered the activation of the Regional Emergency Operation Centers (EOC) including provincial, town and city disaster councils.
The local disaster councils were told to set up holding areas and choke points for trucks and buses headed to major sea ports in case the LPA morphs into a tropical depression.
Sea travel would be suspended if Signal No. 1 is hoisted.
