Año: IATF eyeing placement of some areas in Cebu under localized lockdown

MANILA, Philippines — The government’s task force in charge of the country’s fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is looking at the possibility of placing some areas in Cebu province under a localized lockdown after recording a surge of COVID-19 cases in the province, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said Wednesday.

“Ang tinitignan natin ay Cebu City at ibang lugar sa Cebu dahil for the last seven days tumataas ang kanilang numero at mabilis ang pagtaas,” Año, vice chair of the Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) on the Management of Emerging Infectious, Disease said over Unang Balita when asked about areas being placed under localized lockdown.

(We are looking at Cebu City and other areas in Cebu because for the last seven days their cases have been on the rise.)

Año said National Task Force on the coronavirus disease chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. will visit Cebu to talk about the coronavirus lockdown with officials of the Cebu government and the regional IATF.

Año previously said local government units must create quick response teams to discuss measures for localized lockdowns. Any decision made by the local government must have a concurrence with their respective regional IATF.

As of June 9, Cebu City recorded 2,988 COVID-19 cases with 1,710 recoveries and 33 deaths.
