MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police has recorded 3,699 cases of violence against women and children since the government imposed lockdowns nationwide to curb the new coronavirus.
“As of June 4, the PNP has recorded a total of 1,945 cases of violence against women and 1,754 cases of violence against children since the implementation of the [lockdown],” President Rodrigo Duterte said in his 11th report to Congress.
He added that the Philippine Commission on Women is also actively responding to relevant inquiries received through telephone calls and emails. —Julie M. Aurelio
