As COVID-19 cases add up in Quezon, mayor says no cause for alarm
LUCENA CITY—Three more cases of COVID-19 were added to Quezon province’s growing tally of infections which the mayor of this city said was to be expected because of the improved turnaround of coronavirus test results.
Two of the new cases were from this city and the third was from the town of San Antonio, according to the Quezon public information office (QPIO) on Tuesday (June 9).
In a 5 p.m. report, the QPIO said the province, now on general community quarantine (GCQ), has listed 115 COVID-19 cases.
But of the 115 cases, 77 had recovered and nine died, bringing the tally of active COVID-19 cases to 30. At least 18 of these cases are in this city, the province’s capital.
Lucena has the highest number of cases, 50, though more than half, or 32, had already recovered. There’s no COVID-19 death yet.
San Antonio town on the boundary of Batangas province has listed its first COVID-19 case since the pandemic started.
No detail was given about the three new cases, though.
Lucena Mayor Roderick Alcala said though the numbers are rising, there’s no cause for alarm.
He said the growing number of COVID-19 cases was the result of quicker turnaround of coronavirus test results in a city lab that started operating in May.
The mayor said most of the COVID-19 patients had no symptoms when they were tested.
“Because of their good health conditions, we’re confident that they can all beat the virus,” the mayor said.
