MANILA, Philippines — The United States has donated P54.8 million worth of sustainment supplies to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Quezon City, its embassy in Manila said.
In a statement on Tuesday, the embassy said the supplies would be used to assist BFP to “fulfill their mandate” as the country’s chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) response agency.
The US turned over its donation to BFP last Thursday, June 4.
“The BFP is also one of the primary agencies conducting decontamination and response activities during the COVID-19 pandemic,” the embassy said.
It further noted the “longstanding partnership” of the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) with BFP in boosting the capabilities of the Philippines to respond to CBRN incidents and conduct chemical inspections as well as decontamination operations.
“DTRA is also supporting the BFP and other Filipino agencies in their development of Counter-Weapons of Mass Destruction capabilities,” the embassy said.
