MANILA, Philippines — A 2-month-old baby girl in Pasay City has beaten the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after battling it for almost two months in a hospital.
Baby Poli (not her real name) was discharged from the Pasay City General Hospital on Monday, making her among the 278 residents who had so far recovered from the disease. She was admitted to the hospital on April 19.
“This is indeed a day to rejoice. In our battle against COVID-19, our spirits and our determination to win get a major boost with every person that we help recover through our city’s functioning health-care system,” said Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano.

She added that Baby Poli’s experience would motivate them “to persevere in their response measures to this pandemic.”
According to the local government, Baby Poli came down with a fever in April. She was brought to a clinic where she was given antibiotics for a week. Despite this, her fever persisted, prompting doctors to do a swab test. When she tested positive, she was admitted and remained in the hospital until a repeat swab test on June 2 showed that she was free from COVID-19.
As of Sunday, there were 562 confirmed cases, 37 deaths, 31 suspected and 887 probable cases in the city, according to the city health office.
Since June 7, all barangays in Pasay have been under general community quarantine after the city lifted the extreme enhanced community quarantine (EXCQ) in Barangay 8, 104, 183, 136 and 195.
Last month, these villages were placed under EXCQ after the city health office reported a spike in COVID-19 cases. Only those living in households without confirmed, suspected or probable cases could go out to buy essential items. INQ
