BAGUIO CITY—A vegetable truck driver, who had been to coronavirus hot spots Metro Manila and Bulacan province, brought the virus to the town of Tuba, Benguet province, becoming its first COVID-19 patient.
The 44-year-old man has been confined at the Benguet General Hospital after results of tests were released at 6 p.m. on Monday (June 8) showing the driver to be positive for coronavirus, said Tuba Mayor Clarita Sal-ongan.
The truck driver traveled between the Benguet capital town, La Trinidad, and Manila and Bulacan province in the course of his duties from May 31 to June 7, the mayor said in an announcement.
The sub-village of Bangcua in Tuba has been on lockdown to allow the town’s health team to hunt the people who have had contact with the infected driver.
