TAGBILARAN CITY—A village official and his nephew were killed after they were shot allegedly by a former soldier following a heated argument over a case of land encroachment at a village here.
Village Councilor Carolino Pahang, 64, and his nephew, Jobert Pahang, 38, were rushed to a hospital but were declared dead there due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigation by the city police said Carolino’s brother and former village chief Paul Pahang had an argument with neighbor Teodorico Linghon.
Linghon, 65, and a former soldier, had accused the Pahang family of encroaching into his land.
Paul’s son, Jobert, defended him, prompting Linghon to go back to his house and get his .45 caliber pistol.
When Linghon returned to the place, he shot both Jobert and Carolino, the village councilor who was in the area in an attempt to cool things down.
Linghon immediately fled. Police are now hunting him.
