Lightning strikes, kills man in Samar

TACLOBAN CITY – Tragedy struck and ruined a planned weekend beach getaway when lighting struck and killed a motorized banca operator in Zumarraga, Samar last Sunday.

Romulo Papelerin, 23, was  untying the rope attached to the banca when he was fatally struck by lightning.

“As he (Papelerin) was pulling the rope of the motorized banca because they were about to leave, there was a sudden downpour followed by a lightning that hit the victim who was standing at the rear portion of the banca,” Staff Sergeant Mat Jomel Tañega of the Zumarraga police said

Papelerin was declared dead on arrival at the Samar Provincial Hospital in Catbalogan City.

The other passengers of the banca were not injured, police said.
