MANILA, Philippines — Rape and induced abortion complaints have been filed against a police officer assigned in Sta. Cruz, Manila, for allegedly abusing a female criminology student who applied for an internship, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said Thursday.
Metro Manila police chief Major Gen. Debold Sinas said the Manila Police District (MPD) and Women and Children’s Police Desk filed the complaints against Police Capt. Heherson Zambale.
Sinas also said authorities will file an administrative case against Zambale over the incident.
According to Sinas, the alleged rape incident happened last March 7 and that Zambale also supposedly forced the victim to have an abortion.
Sinas also said he ordered all district directors and police chiefs to suspend accepting on-the-job training requests and that requests for an internship must be validated first by the Regional Intelligence Division.
“We will not tolerate such acts in our organization and we will continue to cleanse the ranks of NCRPO in support [of] the priority program of our Chief, PNP, PGEN ARCHIE FRANCISCO F GAMBOA. As policemen, we are bound to enforce the law, protect the abused, and ensure that the public can depend and rely on us 24/7,” the NCRPO chief said in a statement.
