Lucena police says 1 of 3 arrested in drug bust is SAP cash recipient

LUCENA CITY—The arrest of one recipient of COVID-19 cash aid stood out in a police anti-drug achievement report announcing a successful buy-bust operation at the village of Ibabang Dupa in the city.

Police said three drug suspects were arrested on Thursday (June 4) with one of them listed as a recipient of cash aid being distributed under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) designed to help the poor survive loss of livelihood during lockdowns put in place to stop coronavirus transmission.

The arrested suspects were identified as Ronald Allan Regaza, Merlo Visperas and Aguido Jubac, all residents of the village of Ibabang Dupay, Lt. Colonel Romulo Albacea, Lucena police chief, said in a report.

Police said the suspects were collared after they sold shabu, or crystal meth, to a narc in a buy-bust transaction at the village past 3 p.m. Police seized five sachets of meth worth P4,200.

Police said Jubac, 65, was on the list of cash aid recipients at the village. The suspects would be charged.
