MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday laid out its guidelines for motorists as the modified number coding scheme takes effect on June 8 for the duration of the general community quarantine (GCQ).

Under the modified coding scheme guidelines, the MMDA said private vehicles are exempted from the number coding scheme as long as they carry a maximum of two or more passengers including the driver.

MMDA also reminded that all passengers and drivers of private vehicles must observe strict health protocols such as physical distancing and the wearing of face masks.

MMDA also ordered operators of transport network vehicle service (TNVS) “to put up signage so they could easily be recognized as TNVS.”

To recall, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia announced that the modified number coding scheme will start on June 8. Garcia said the coding scheme was supposed to be implemented on June 1 but was delayed because the agency still needed to publish the new guidelines.

Meanwhile, a modified number coding scheme was already in effect in Makati City last June 1.
