CITY OF ILAGAN–The Department of Agriculture (DA) has distributed 15 solar-powered irrigation systems to rain-fed farms in Isabela, Cagayan and Nueva Vizcaya to increase rice and corn production in Cagayan Valley in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Roberto Busania, DA Cagayan Valley technical director for operations and extension services, said 11 more solar-powered irrigation systems will be given to beneficiaries in other parts of the region.

The technology produces water that can irrigate 30 to 50 hectares of farms.

The systems will augment the irrigation requirement of 70,000-hectares of rain-fed areas that are not covered by irrigation supply from Magat Dam, Busania said.
