LUCENA CITY –– Two new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have been recorded in Quezon province on Wednesday morning, the Quezon public information office (QPIO) revealed.
In its 8 a.m. bulletin, the QPIO, citing the latest data from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), disclosed that Lucena, the capital city of Quezon, now logged a total of 16 COVID-19 new cases.
This came 11 days after the authorities announced the recovery of all its 29 COVID-19 patients.
Lucena Mayor Roderick Alcala earlier maintained that the surge in the number of local COVID-19 patients should not be a cause for alarm.
He insisted that the rise in the cases was the result of the fast turnaround of test results from a COVID-19 laboratory in the city that started operations on May 19.
Quezon, now under general community quarantine, has 104 confirmed COVID-19 cases in its record. At least 73 of the patients have recovered, but eight others had died.
The province now has a total of 23 active virus carriers, all confined in a medical facility.
