Gov’t will sustain war on illegal drugs – Año

MANILA, Philippines — With the easing up of quarantine restrictions, the government should set its focus back to the war on illegal drugs.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año warned drug syndicates on Tuesday that loosening measures to contain the new coronavirus disease pandemic meant “tightening up of the government’s battle against illegal drugs.” Año said.

The Philippine National Police cited a 59% drop in crime incidents for the duration of the community quarantines nationwide. He noted that the lockdowns paralyzed drug syndicates.

“The DILG and the PNP will see to it that the momentum and gains in the anti-illegal drugs campaign will be sustained,” he said.
