BAMBAN, Tarlac –– Farmers in Capas town started to get free palay (unhusked rice) seeds, goats, fertilizers, and cash assistance from the local government.
At least 5,500 sacks of palay seeds are being distributed to 1,824 farmers. Each sack contains 20 kilos of palay seeds, which were bought by the Department of Agriculture under the Rice Competitive Enhancement Program.
P5,000-cash assistance will also be given to 1,630 farmers, who have about or less than two hectares farm lot.
The Capas government is also distributing 366 goats to 122 families, each getting two male goats and one female goat.
Tricycle, bus, and jeepney drivers will receive 25 kilograms of rice and grocery items.
Instead of sardines, the grocery items will include meatloaf and corned beef, said Edgar Guevarra, Capas public order and safety management officer.
But drivers who already received financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development through the government’s social amelioration program will no longer receive relief goods.
