P50-M overpriced medical supplies seized
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Sunday said it would file charges against those behind the importation of P50 million worth of medical supplies and equipment if they fail to show proof they paid proper duties and taxes to the government.
“We hope that this sends a clear message to all sellers hoarding and selling overpriced medical supplies in this time of emergency,” the BOC said in a statement.
Authorities on Thursday raided warehouses in Greenhills, San Juan City and Malabon City and seized the medical supplies and equipment.
The warehouses are owned by Omnibus Biomedical System Inc, the same company tagged in a Senate inquiry for selling allegedly overpriced medical equipment to the government.
