Makati City implementing modified number coding scheme starting June 1

MANILA, Philippines — Makati City will implement a modified number coding scheme for vehicles  Metro Manila shifts to general community quarantine (GCQ) status starting Monday, June 1.

In an advisory, the Makati City government said that vehicles with two or more passengers are exempted from the scheme and its drivers will not be apprehended.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) earlier announced that number coding scheme for private and public vehicles will remain suspended on the first week of June.

“Lifted pa rin ang number coding next week. Huwag na sila mag-alala  kung sila ay number coding hindi muna i-implement yung modified coding next week,” MMDA spokeswoman Celine Pialago said on DWIZ.

The number coding scheme has been suspended since March 13, 2020 after President Rodrigo Duterte placed Metro Manila under a enhanced community quarantine status to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease.

In areas under GCQ, public transportation systems will be allowed to operate with limited passenger capacity and with stringent health protocols imposed.

A minimum 1-meter physical distancing in public transportation units, among others, will be required.
