DOH urges public to report illegal medical facilities for COVID-19 patients

MANILA, Philippines —  The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday encouraged the public to report illegal medical centers treating COVID-19 patients in the wake of the discovery of several underground Chinese clinics.

“While we have not received any reports about clandestine hospitals for Filipino patients, we encourage everyone to report these unlicensed facilities because they endanger our health,” the DOH said in a statement.

In the same statement, it added: “DOH continues to reiterate that the public should only seek treatment from licensed health facilities from licensed physicians and healthcare workers, using FDA [Food and Drug Administration] approved medications and medical devices. Doing otherwise might result in harm.”

This May alone, two underground clinics were discovered in Makati and in Pampanga. In April, the Parañaque police and city government also uncovered an illegal COVID-19 clinic treating Chinese patients.
