MANILA, Philippines — The recent decrease in the recorded coronavirus disease (COVID-19) “fresh cases” in the country showed an accurate picture of the situation in the Philippines, the Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire issued the statement after 46 fresh cases were reported by the DOH on Friday.
“Kung itong fresh cases— ang pagbabasihan natin dahil ito ang mas magpapabigay sa’tin ng mas accurate na picture of our situation— Makikita niyo na from 109 fresh cases nung May 28 bumaba sa 46 fresh cases yesterday May 29. Itong pagbaba pong ito ay makikita natin bilang magandang indikasyon ng estado sa ating bansa,” Vergeire said in an online press briefing.
(If the fresh cases will be our basis — because this gives us an accurate picture of our situation— We will see that from 109 fresh cases on May 28 it decreased to 46 fresh cases on May 29. This decrease gives us a good indication on the state of our country.)
On Friday, 1,046 cases were reported but only 46 were “fresh cases.” Meanwhile, on Thursday, 109 fresh cases were reported from 539 COVID-19 cases.
Vergeire reiterated they had a delay in reporting previous cases due to “aggressive case validation” and recent submissions of accredited laboratories for confirming COVID-19 cases.
“Ito ay dahil sa recent submissions po ng case list ng iba’t ibang laboratoryo at dahil mas agresibo na po ang pagvavalidate ng ating DOH Epidemiology Bureau,” she said, explaining the recent surge of cases on Friday with 1,046 COVID-19 cases.
(This is because of the recent submission of a case list from different laboratories and aggressive validation by the DOH Epidemiology Bureau.)
