Bataan cop gunned down in Nueva Ecija
LICAB, Nueva Ecija –– A 40-year-old policeman was gunned down by an unidentified assailant here on Friday afternoon, the police said.
The victim, whose rank was not immediately disclosed, was identified as Rodel Umengan, who was assigned to the Morong Police Station in Bataan but a resident of Barangay Sta. Maria here.
Initial investigation said Umengan was at the passenger seat of a tricycle and was on his way home when shot by the motorcycle-riding gunman.
Police said the assailant managed to alight from his motorcycle and chased the tricycle that carried the victim.
The gunman then snatched another motorcycle to escape but witnesses said he transferred to a car.
Umengan was taken to Rural Health Unit here and was later transferred to a hospital in Cabanatuan City where he was declared dead on arrival.
