DAVAO CITY—Just two days before quarantine restrictions are eased, the Davao region registered the highest jump, so far, in the number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections.
On Friday, the Department of Health (DOH) said 52 more active cases are added to the count of infections, bringing the region’s tally to 329.
Of the 52, 30 are in Davao City, bringing its count of COVID-19 cases to 283.
This recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the city mirrors the surge it experienced during the last week of March.
That time, Davao City was among the top ten localities with the most COVID-19 cases in the country, and the highest outside the National Capital Region.
The rest of the 52 new cases in the region are from Davao Oriental (12), Davao del Sur (9), and Davao del Norte (1).
Local health officials have yet to issue an explanation behind the recent spike of COVID-19 cases.
