Digos’s 2nd COVID-19 patient recovers

DIGOS CITY –– This city’s second patient to have been infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has recovered, a recent test result showed.

Vice Mayor Johari Baña said the 20-year-old patient, who is in isolation at the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital here, was found to no longer have the virus after being tested using the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) on a second swab sample.

The patient was found positive for the infection on May 26.

The patient has shown no symptoms of the disease, so far, and is set to undergo a third test. If the test turns negative, the patient could be discharged from isolation, Baña said.

Baña has urged Digos residents to keep calm and avoid discriminating against the family and relatives of COVID-19 patients.

He also urged them to remain vigilant even as the city transitions to modified general community quarantine mode, where people of all ages are allowed to go out of their homes and all businesses can open.

Digos has, so far, registered two COVID-19 cases. The first, a 38-year-old male, was exposed to the virus during the March derby at the new Matina Gallera. He has since fully recovered.

As of May 29, Digos City has six suspected COVID-19 cases, all of them awaiting test results.
