Mindoro town to ask IATF to retain its GCQ status

CITY OF CALAPAN The municipality of Lubang in Occidental Mindoro province is appealing to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) to reconsider its decision to put the province under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) starting June 1.

In a Facebook post on “Ang Pamahalang Bayan ng Lubang,” the town’s Task Force COVID-19 committee on Thursday said it would opt that Lubang remains under general community quarantine (GCQ) status.

In its decision, the town officials explained that “there [are] insufficient medical facilities in case there would be positive case[s] in the health centers and hospital; (insufficient number of) medical professionals like doctors, nurses, midwives to attend to COVID-19 cases; and the difficulty in transporting patients to Batangas or Manila.” Lubang is an island town.

The statement also said that with the expected arrival of stranded Lubangeños, more caution is needed.

The meeting last Thursday was attended by Lubang Mayor Michael Lim Orayani, town and village officials, and representatives from the national agencies, and community sectors. Madonna T. Virola, @mvirolaINQ, Inquirer Southern Luzon
