New COVID-19 case breaks 8-day lull in Bicol
LEGAZPI CITY—A new case of COVID-19 was recorded in the region of Bicol, which broke an eight-day lull, according to the Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday (May 28).
The new patient, a 21-year-old woman from the village of Banquerohan here, tested positive on Wednesday (May 27), said Dr. Antonio Ludovice of the Albay provincial health office.
The woman is a machine operator who arrived in the city last May 22 from Sta. Rosa City in Laguna province, Ludovice said. No further details were given about her work.
She had a checkup on the day of her arrival in Legazpi.
The regional testing center in this city resumed operations only last Tuesday (May 26) after an exhaust duct was damaged at the height of Typhoon Ambo (international name: Vongfong). Samples from the region were temporarily redirected to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
Ludovice said the woman has been on quarantine and authorities were still checking how she contracted SARS Cov2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
This new case brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Bicol region to 69. At least 54 of the cases are in Albay, 11 in Camarines Sur, two in Camarines Norte and one each in Sorsogon and Catanduanes.
