Tricycles in San Juan back with stringent health rules

MANILA, Philippines — The city government of San Juan on Thursday resumed operations of tricycles while requiring drivers and passengers to follow strict health requirements to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus disease.

San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora posted on Facebook an infographic of health guidelines for passengers and drivers of tricycles, saying he will inspect terminals to ensure the protocols are being followed.

“Mag-iikot at mag-iinspeksyon si Mayor Francis Zamora sa mga tricycle terminals para ipaalala ang mga patakarang dapat sundin upang masiguro ang kaligtasan ng mga pasahero pati na rin ng mga driver mula sa COVID-19,” read the post.

(Mayor Zamora will inspect tricycle terminals to be reminded of protocols to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers from COVID-19.)

Based on Zamora’s post, tricycle drivers must have health clearance and travel passes.

All tricycles must have a plastic cover separating the tricycle driver from the passenger.

Only one passenger is allowed on the sidecar of the three-wheeled vehicle.

Back riding at tricycles is still not allowed.

Tricycles should also be disinfected, especially the sidecar.

Safety protocols such as wearing face masks, washing of hands, using disinfectant alcohol are also required both for passengers and tricycle drivers.

Lastly, Zamora said tricycles would have a fixed rate of P15 per trip.
