Although Caloocan is prepared for Metro Manila’s possible transition to the more relaxed general community quarantine starting June 1, barangays in the city which register a notable increase in the number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases may still be placed under lockdown.
According to Mayor Oscar Malapitan, three more villages were currently under evaluation. Last week, four streets in Barangay 28—Dagat-Dagatan, Kawal, Landaska and Kamada—were placed on targeted lockdown.
“The houses in these areas are cramped or too close together. We observed that the number of positive COVID-19 cases increased in these streets during our mass [rapid] and swab testing,” he said in the Laging Handa public briefing on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Barangay 12 which has 56 cases, the highest among villages in the city, will be on extended lockdown until Saturday. —Meg Adonis
