The country’s best mixed martial arts fighter, Eduard “The Landslide” Folayang, gave credence to his lofty reputation as he knocked-out Brazilian Wadson Teixeira in the main event of the Universal Reality Combat Championship Cebu fight card dubbed  “Dominate” late Friday night at the Cebu International Convention Center.

Folayang, Lakay Wushu’s most prominent fighter and a beacon of light for Filipino MMA with his success in different international stints, got tagged with a punch early in the first round that knocked him down.

However, the attack proved to be a wake-up call for the Baguio native as he immediately went on the offensive and took down Teixeira.

He then pummelled his opponent with vicious punches and elbows until Texeira could take no more and got knocked out, much to the delight of the fans who have waited several years to see Folayang fight in Cebu.

The end for Teixeira officially came at the 56-second mark of the first round.

Afterwards, Folayang thanked the crowd and the URCC for the opportunity to have his comeback fight in the Queen City of the South. He also added that this is just going to be the beginning of a good year, wherein he hopes to take his skills to a higher level.

In the URCC Visayan title fights, Cary “The Prince” Bullos finally got over the hump as he wrested the bantamweight title away from Rex de Lara with an incredible submission early in the second round.

The two fighters were dead even in the opening round as they each survived gripping choke holds from one another.

However, De Lara made a crucial mistake in the next round as he attempted a take down near the corner.

Bullos anticipated the maneuver and swiftly locked in a standing guillotine choke, and cranked it in even further by going to the ground. The pressure proved to be great for De Lara as he tapped out at the 1:45 mark.

Later, Bullos credited his success to his trainer and brother Lyndel.

“Giingnan lang ko niya to relax and maghuwat lang na masayup akong kalaban. Taas daw kaayo ang oras so I just took my time,” said Bullos after his match.

While one Cebuano attained success, another one fell.

Geronimo Etac failed in his bid for the pinweight championship against titlist Victor Torre.

Etac was having his way with Torre as he got in several leg kicks. But the tide turned after Torre caught Etac in a triangle choke and transitioned it into a vicious armbar, which the former could not take, forcing him to tap out 6:17 into the match.

In other matches, Jonathan Sumogat lived up to his credentials as he tapped out Renan Noblefranca with a kimura at the 2:19 mark of the first.

Sumogat is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu blue-belt, a Pan-Asian gold medalist and an undefeated amateur kickboxer.

The knockouts came swift and hard during Friday’s fight card as Jimmy Yabo connected on a right hook that knocked out Urtych Alarin just 24 seconds into their match. Roel Rosauro also won via KO as he put to sleep Arnel Ylanan with a perfectly placed spinning back fist with just 49 seconds left in the first round.

Vaughn Donaire also pounded Hans Christian Lamanilao into pulp as he won via referee stoppage at the 3:31 mark of the first round.
